President Christine Kangaloo will officially appoint Peneleope Beckles-Robinson as Opposition Leader at a ceremony on Tuesday.
The Arima Member of Parliament Elect received unanimous support for the post from her parliamentary colleagues .
Meanwhile a special meeting of the general council of the People’s National Movement will be held to elect new executive leadership of the party.
At a press conference held at Balisier House on Monday, PNM General Secretary Foster Cummings confirmed that, as per the PNM constitution, 20 members of the General Council signed a letter triggering an emergency General Council Meeting.
Eligible members at the meeting, which will be held on Tuesday afternoon, will vote for the vacant positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman.
Mr Cummings explained that the post of Political Leader will be filled at the PNM Convention, which he said, may be held later this year. He clarified that Deputy Political Leaders are chosen by the Political Leader.
