Tobago People’s Party (TPP) Political Leader Farley Augustine has urged supporters to stay on course.
As he delivered an address during a thanksgiving event on Saturday, he described elected TPP MPs Joel Sampson and David Thomas as the biblical Joshua and Caleb, emphasising that they will face giant-like challenges as they represent Tobago in Parliament. However, he reminded them to remain focused.
“Do not get distracted in Port of Spain. Stay focused. Keep your eyes on the ground. Keep looking at what the task is, and I kid you not, the moment you get distracted, we will bring you back in alignment with what the focus should be as required by the people of Tobago.”
Mr. Augustine also urged Tobago House of Assembly Area Representatives not to allow the victory to mislead them.
“Area representatives, you should be walking ten times more. Go back to the ground and do not take your feet off the ground. Come out of those Prados and Fortunas and whatever they have in the Division, leave the air-conditioned office you have behind and go back in the hot sun and deal with your people. That is critical. It is important for you to understand that you ain’t win yet.”
The TPP Leader also encouraged the party to prepare for the upcoming Tobago House of Assembly elections.
“I am saying to you area reps, I am saying to you action groups, that none of us in this room, including myself, we don’t know at this time when the next election date will be, but I am saying that we know for sure that one will be approaching as per Act 40 of 1996, so you better get your lamps trimmed and burning. Those who are wise and have their lamps trimmed and burning will be ready for whenever that date will be. Those who are unwise and who will be ill-prepared at that time, you will find yourself on the losing end of the stick.”
Mr. Augustine expressed confidence in the TPP’s ability to also claim victory in this election.
