Deon Lendore Classic

Track and Field held centre stage yet again at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain just a couple weeks after the Junior Relay Festival. The spotlight this time around at the Mucurapo venue was on the Deon Lendore Classic with some of the best local based juniors and seniors on display.

Just a reminder for some of you, Deon Lendore was a T&T Olympic Medallist who died as a result of a vehicular accident in 2022 in Texas at the age of 29. His former club Abilene Wildcats of Arima has renamed this invitational tournament in his honour.

We were there for the relay portion of events where the southern-based unit Simplex Athletic Club proved to be a force as seen in one of the under-17 boys’ races proving too much for 2nd place Elite Performance and Stallion in 3rd.

The exchange of batons wasn’t the smoothest on the day which cost Simplex in another Under 17 race, handing Cougars the win with Abilene Wildcats getting third.

The Under 17 girls impressed as well with Phoenix rising above Abilene and Concorde in their clash.

Competition was stiff too in the seniors, where Simplex again flexed their muscles. Stallion and UTT Patriots had to settle for 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. And again in another seniors 4×1, they proved too much for St Augustine and Defence Force.
