Government Committee To Inspect Refinery

The government is proposing to implement a committee to inspect the assets of the defunct Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of the government made history in Fyzabad on Labour Day by being the first female prime minister and the only government in power to share the stage with the trade union movement. The restart of the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery was an election promise made by the United National Congress.

The Prime Minister gave a timeline of 2 months for an interim report on the feasibility of restarting the Pointe-a-Pierre Refinery. She also asked the Labour Movement for patience when it comes to placing representatives on State Boards.
