“Every organisation must care for their employees and demonstrate that care.”
The words of Principal of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, as she delivered the opening remarks at their inaugural “Spirit of Excellence Awards” on Friday.
Guided by the theme “Driven by Spirit, Defined by Excellence,” UWI St Augustine Principal Rose Marie Belle Antoine, shared the qualities of the administrative, operational and support staff awardees, who she described as the “heart” of the University of the West Indies.
“Deliver exceptional service. They consistently perform beyond the expectations of their roles. They act with integrity. They’re generally responsive, whether to customers or requests … They bring innovative ideas and solutions to their departments. And, most of all, they’ve earned the trust and admiration of those who rely on them. And that is really what the spirit of excellence means for us.”
Featured speaker and UWI Alumna, Catherine Kumar, offered that “excellence is never a solo pursuit,” and reminded those honoured that their influence extends beyond the walls of the University.
“The University of the West Indies is more than an institution; it is a catalyst for social change, economic empowerment, and regional development to name a few. Your dedication contributes to a legacy that shapes generations. Symbolises, not just personal milestones, but also the potential that lies within each of us to redefine what is possible when passion meets perseverance, and when you don’t see obstacles but possibilities.”
The eleven awardees were nominated by their peers and selected from a pool of over sixty submissions.
The “Spirit of Excellence Awards,” is a part of the mission to improve and value staff engagement.
