The Ministry of Education has partnered with PowerGen to launch an art competition aimed at recognising and empowering young artistic talents.
The Schools’ Art Competition, themed ‘I See Beauty in the Colour in Life’, will engage students of primary, secondary and special schools across the country.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Michael Dowlath, commended PowerGen for their sponsorship of a project that will empower young minds.
“I want to congratulate PowerGen for continuing to allow us to bring back colour to education, to bring back that sense of creativity, to helping us to explore the culture of our country, especially through young minds, the ones who are the future leaders.”
Dr. Dowlath said art is essential, as it takes the intangible and makes it tangible, allowing for holistic development.
“The ones who, instead of seeing everything in black and white and rules and regulations, will understand that life is more than jobs and, you know, the physical interactions we have. I think it allows us to see the human soul. And that is something that, as we nurture the artistic expressions in our children, the future of our country will be in good hands, because then we allow them the opportunity to develop holistically.”
PowerGen’s Head of Legal Advisory Services, Marsha Mohammed, said her company continues to support young minds and communities at large through several initiatives.
“This art competition is a natural extension of that commitment. Its relaunch after a seven-year hiatus reflects our renewed focus on cultivating artistic expression and providing meaningful platforms for young creatives to shine.”
The art competition will see the participation of students, whose pieces will then be displayed and recognised on PowerGen’s website and at the office of the Ministry of Education.
