Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her government remains committed to building a society where every young person is empowered and equipped to shape a better future.
She gave the commitment on the occasion of the United Nations’ World Youth Skills Day.
The Prime Minister says this year’s theme, ‘Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills,’ aligns with the government’s core commitment to prepare young people to lead and thrive in a digitally driven world.
She noted that since taking office just two months ago, the government has established the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence and reinstated the Schools’ Laptop Programme.
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said youth development will be a central pillar of the government’s national growth strategy. Among the plans outlined are investing in technical and vocational education, promoting ethical and inclusive digital literacy, and creating sustainable pathways to decent work and entrepreneurship.
