Progress Made In ‘Soca Warriors’ Trademark Dispute

A key meeting hosted by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs has brought stakeholders closer to resolving the ongoing dispute over the “Soca Warriors” trademark.

Facilitated by Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, David Nakhid, the discussion involved Selwyn Melville, owner of the trademark, and Colin Murray of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association. Both parties described the meeting as cordial and productive, with hopes of finalising a solution by next week.

“We were miles apart before, but now we’re much closer,” Murray said. “Everyone wants this resolved for the benefit of the country.”

Minister Nakhid praised the respectful tone of the meeting and expressed confidence in a positive outcome, saying, “The people of Trinidad and Tobago want this resolved, and both sides were open and cooperative.”

An update is expected in the coming days on the final outcome of the dialogue.
