Tobago Safety App And Hotline To Be Launched

The Tobago House of Assembly will be rolling out new systems to provide more efficient security services.

This came from Chief Secretary Farley Augustine after a Tobago Security Council meeting on Sunday.

He said among the plans is an app to be launched under the Division of Tourism.

“That app is going through a testing phase, and so the stakeholders, like those in the Hotel and Tourism Association, they are testing the app, looking at it. The modifications are being done with a view that this week the app will be live. It is ‘Safe Tobago’, S-A-F-E Tobago, and it will be available on Android and iOS systems. That is one way in which you can stay in tune, you can report crimes, you can get help.”

Mr. Augustine said a dedicated Tobago telephone line will also be set up to allow Tobagonians and tourists to make reports.

“What the THA is doing is providing a Tobago-specific number, which will be 639-HELP through TSTT and later this week an announcement will be made when that line is live 24 hours a day, just to take your call so that we can ensure a quick response to your security challenges and needs on the island.”

Chief Secretary Augustine said he will continue conversations with government officials, as there are areas where Tobago needs additional support.
