Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) officials, on Saturday 26th July 2025, completed another phase of
their nationwide infrastructure and consumer supply assessment, with facility inspections and engagements with parliamentary and local government representatives in the Central Region.
This initiative is a manifestation of the Authority’s commitment to improving and evolving WASA’s water
infrastructure and service delivery that would result in the utility becoming a more responsive customer
focused organisation.
Joining the team led by WASA Chairman, Roshan Babwah and Acting CEO, Jeevan Joseph, on the first
stop on the tour to the Carlsen Field Water Treatment Plant, was Dr. The Honourable David Lee, MP for
Caroni Central and Minister of Housing.
Dr. Lee put the Authority on notice that he expected WASA to deliver on commitments to improving the
level of service provided to his constituents. In response, Mr. Babwah stated that WASA would be resolute
in its drive to provide an equitable and sustainable water supply to areas classified as water stressed and
underserved while Mr. Joseph outlined short to medium term projects aimed at improving the reliability
of supply to customers within the Carlsen Field zone.
These projects include:
- Development of two (2) production wells with an expected production capacity of 500, 000 gallons per day.
- Construction of a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and installation of pipelines at Ravine Sable with a maximum total daily production capacity of two (2) million gallons of water per day.
On the second stop of the tour, the team visited the Navet Waterworks in Tabaquite where they viewed works being conducted on the eight (8) filters at this major surface water treatment facility. These works will allow the Navet WTP to maintain and exceed its design production rate of 19.7mgd while producing potable water that meets World Health Organization (WHO) standards for quality.
At this location among the participants were: The Honourable Sean Sobers, MP for Tabaquite and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr. The Honourable Aiyna Ali, MP for Princes Town and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Princes Town Regional Corporation, Gowrie Roopnarine, and Vice Chairman of the Tabaquite/ Talparo Regional Corporation, Henry Awong.
