Pensioner’s Home Among Two Lost In Back-To-Back Tobago Fires

Two separate house fires in Tobago within a 24-hour span left both homes completely destroyed.

On Tuesday, fire officers responded to a blaze at Miller Drive, Darrel Spring, Scarborough, where a wooden structure was already engulfed by flames on their arrival. Police reported the house was owned by a man now living in Trinidad, who had abandoned the property after a narcotics-related warrant was issued for his arrest. No one was inside at the time.

A day earlier in Mount St George, the home of 73-year-old pensioner Kelvin Joseph, valued at $1.5 million, was gutted by fire. A neighbour first spotted smoke coming from the southern side of the house and discovered a microwave and shelf burning. He quickly raised an alarm and evacuated, but the fire spread rapidly to the roof. By the time officials arrived, the entire house had been destroyed.
