The Tyre Inspection Unit at the T&T Bureau of Standards will no longer be closing its doors.
The confirmation came from Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Eli Zakour, during Thursday’s Post-Cabinet Media Briefing.
He said, according to media reports, the Unit was scheduled to be closed from Friday, with inspections expected to be conducted in-house at car dealerships and at the premises of private importers.
However, Minister Zakour said he had discussions with the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism to remedy the issue.
“The TTBS, Tyre Inspection Station, not VMCOTT, they rent from VMCOTT, which is a state entity under the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. The main issue was arrears of rent over the past year. The rents have since been paid, and we entered into an arrangement with the Ministry of Trade, which is why the office is going to remain open. It was 12 months. The rent is $18,000 a month.”
