Two Killed During Police-Involved Shooting In Eastern Division

Two men were killed during a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in the Eastern Division (ED) yesterday.

Reports indicate that officers of the North Central Division Gang and Intelligence Unit, proceeded to the Sangre Grande district, acting on intelligence that armed individuals in a red Honda Vezel motor vehicle, were allegedly planning an armed robbery at a popular establishment, to coincide with the CPL Finals, on Sunday 21st September, 2025.

The vehicle was observed in the Jairasingh Village district and intercepted. The occupants of the vehicle allegedly opened fire on the officers, who in keeping with the TTPS Use of Force Policy, returned fire in the direction of the assailants.

Two suspects received gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital by Eastern Division Task Force officers, where they were pronounced dead.

The deceased have been identified as Shyien Transoco aka ‘Nookie’ and Enrique Garcia, both of Coalmine, Sangre Grande.

One AR-15 rifle and 25 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.

Meanwhile, an intelligence-led operation in the Mayaro district between 1 am and 5 am, today, Monday 22nd September, 2025, resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old Sangre Grande man for Possession of Ammunition. The suspect is also wanted in connection with reports of Burglary, Rape and Grievous Sexual Assault.

A second suspect of Mafeking Village was also held for Possession of a quantity of Ammunition.

The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Paponette, Supt. Beharry, ASP Russel, Insp. Harper, Insp. Ramdeen and supervised by Insp. Racha and Cpl Mahadeo of the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department (CID), with assistance from officers of the Mayaro and Rio Claro CIDs, the Mayaro Police Station and the ED Emergency Response Patrol, Area South.
