Diligent Police Work Cracks Sangre Grande Assault And Burglary Case

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is commending the dedicated efforts of its officers following the successful arrest and charging of a suspect in connection with a violent and disturbing incident of burglary, rape, grievous sexual assault, and assault with intent to rob, which occurred on April 25th, 2025, at Guy Street, North Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande.

Following a detailed and exhaustive five-month investigation, officers of the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department (CID), led by Sgt Maharaj. Sdo i/c Sangre Grande CID, under the supervision of Ag Inspector Harper and WPC Joseph supported by PC Budhooram and Cpl Mahadeo, arrested a 25-year-old man of Logwood Trace, Mafeking Village, Mayaro and Riley Land Settlement, Sangre Grande.

The suspect was apprehended during a coordinated police operation on September 22, 2025, in the Mayaro District, following weeks of surveillance, intelligence gathering, and painstaking investigative work. Officers also conducted searches at two premises linked to the accused, during which four (4) rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered. This led to the additional arrest of a 27-year-old male relative of the accused.

Following further investigations, on September 24th, 2025, formal instructions were received to charge Kent Pierre for the following offences:

1. Burglary

2. Rape

3. Grievous Sexual Assault

4. Indecent Assault (2 counts)

5. Assault with Intent to Rob (3 counts)

6. Common Assault (2 counts)

The charges were formally laid by WPC Joseph of the Sangre Grande CID. The accused is expected to appear before the North Master’s Court today, September 25, 2025.

The TTPS recognises the outstanding teamwork and perseverance of the investigating officers, CSI personnel, and support units including the Eastern Division Task Force (EDTF) and Eastern Division ERP, whose swift and coordinated action contributed to the breakthrough in this case.

Senior Superintendent of the Eastern Division, Christopher Paponette stated:“This case is an example of what can be achieved when officers remain focused, patient, and persistent in their investigative work. The outcome is a testament to the Division’s professional approach to crime detection, where every measure is taken to pursue justice within the law. The public can be assured that the Eastern Division and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is resolute in confronting those who commit violent crimes, and equally committed to protecting the rights and safety of our citizens.”

Support services, including counselling, have been arranged for the victims as the TTPS continues to provide care and protection throughout the legal process.

The TTPS urges the public to continue to partner with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity, and assures citizens that all reports will be taken seriously and handled with the highest degree of sensitivity and confidentiality.
