T&T To Receive $94M Aid Grant From China

Concomitant with the arrival of the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, S.C., M.P., Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in New York for the High-Level Week of the Eightieth Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Trinidad and Tobago confirmed and finalised arrangements for the receipt of an Aid Grant from the Government of the People’s Republic of China valued at RMB 100 million (approximately TT$94 million).

The Aid Grant will be disbursed under an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Government of the People’s Republic of China. This donation from the Chinese Government will be used for the implementation of mutually agreed projects in Trinidad and Tobago. The Grant was discussed during a bilateral meeting between the Honourable Prime Minister and His Excellency Ren Hongyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China on 18 September 2025 at the Diplomatic Centre in advance of the UNGA.

On 25 September 2025, the Honourable Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs held bilateral discussions with His Excellency, Miao Deyu’s, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China on the margin of UNGA. During the bilateral, both countries discussed areas of mutual interest as well as cooperation at a multilateral level between both countries.

Later today, the Honourable Prime Minister will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah of the State of Kuwait and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.
