The Minister of Public Utilities, Barry Padarath, today visited the Water and Sewerage Authority’s Head Office in St. Joseph, where he met briefly with employees following the Government’s announcement to begin new wage negotiations with the Public Services Association (PSA).
The announcement was made by the Minister of Finance, Davendranath Tancoo, during his 2026 Budget Presentation on October 13th, 2025, with negotiations set to commence with a proposal for a 10% increase.
Minister Padarath’s declaration of “Promise made. Promise kept’ to employees was received with applause.
During his visit, Minister Padarath also emphasised his commitment to workers in the public utilities sector. “Our public utilities provide essential services. Ensuring fair emoluments is key to maintaining
a motivated and productive workforce, which directly translates to improved service for the nation,” the Minister stated.
He also acknowledged the recent decision to set aside the previous WASA Transformation Plan, a move that has provided job security for hundreds of employees.
Minister Padarath was welcomed by WASA Chairman, Roshan Babwah, and Acting CEO, Jeevan Joseph. He also held discussions with PSA President, Felisha Thomas.
Employees present expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit and the positive news regarding the upcoming negotiations.
