The Government says it has taken note of a statement issued by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela earlier today regarding the visit of the USS Gravely (DDG-107) to Trinidad and Tobago from Sunday, October 26th, to Thursday, October 30th, 2025.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs came after Venezuela’s Vice President, Delcy Rodriguez, questioned the presence of the USS Gravely in Trinidad and Tobago and claimed that “a false flag attack is underway from waters bordering Trinidad and Tobago, or from Trinidadian or Venezuelan territory itself, which will generate a full-scale military confrontation” with her country.
However, in the statement issued on Sunday night, the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs denied those claims, noting that both the Trinidad and Tobago and United States governments have been clear about the purpose of the USS Gravely’s visit, with official statements issued on October 23rd and 24th, and further details provided at a news conference held today, Sunday, October 26th, 2025.
“The visit of the USS Gravely aims to bolster the fight against transnational crime and build resilience through training, humanitarian activities, and security cooperation. It will also strengthen the longstanding partnership between both countries, which has provided enhanced medical care and disaster preparedness, improved lives, and strengthened communities in Trinidad and Tobago.”
The Ministry added that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago “has repeatedly made it clear that it values this country’s relationship with the people of Venezuela, given our shared history and close fraternal relations.”
It further reiterated its “commitment to the people of the Caribbean to the creation of a safer, stronger, and more prosperous region.”
