The public is being advised by the Trinidad and Tobago Housing Development Corporation (HDC) not to make any payments to obtain an HDC reference number or to expedite their housing applications.
A social media post from the HDC titled ‘Scamwatch’ indicates that it is aware of individuals pretending to be HDC employees and engaging in fraudulent activities.
The Corporation is cautioning the public to only make payments to an HDC official located in the Cashier’s Unit at the HDC’s Head Office on South Quay, Port of Spain, in full view of the cameras located there.
In addition, the HDC notes that officials from the Corporation will not ask to meet anyone outside their offices to discuss housing applications, exchange funds, or transact business. HDC officials will also never ask members of the public to transfer funds to any employee’s bank account or make contact via social media.
