Port Of Spain Twinning Association Spreads Christmas Joy To Differently-Abled Children

In a heartwarming display of inclusion, the Port of Spain St. Catherine Association hosted its Christmas event for differently-abled children at the Port of Spain City Hall on Thursday.

President of the Port of Spain Twinning Association, Allison Alexander, said the event brought together students from three schools in the area: the Princess Elizabeth Special School, Lady Hochoy School Cocorite PTA, and the School for the Blind.

“The Port of Spain Twinning Association – we are twinned with the city of St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada, and this is our annual affair where we treat the physically challenged children of the different homes at this time of the year and make it more important, International Year of the Child.”

Ms. Alexander noted that though funding was a challenge this year, the programme will continue to provide much needed assistance to the schools in the future.

“But we are hoping to revamp that, we will be able to again offer them some assistance with respect to wheelchairs, and walkers and things like that, like we used to in the past, but other than that, we give them a Christmas treat where we have them here, we have mascots and things for them to enjoy.”

This is the 10th year that the Port of Spain Twinning Association has provided services to children with disabilities.
