Paria Coastal Rehabilitation Project Reaches 50% Completion

As the government seeks to safeguard vulnerable communities from coastal erosion and climate-related impacts, critical coastal protection works have begun along the Paria Main Road in Matelot.

Work on the Paria Coastal Rehabilitation Project, a stretch long known for shoreline instability and road deterioration, is being prioritised by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure through its Coastal Protection Unit.

The Ministry says the renewed works span approximately 401 metres and will fortify the coastline, preventing further land loss and securing the roadway linking Matelot to surrounding communities.

Works are said to be 50% complete and represent a significant investment in both community protection and long-term infrastructure resilience.

According to the Ministry, when completed, the project will secure the primary access route for more than 7,000 residents of Matelot, Toco, Sans Souci, Monte Video, and Grande Riviere.
