The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MoRDLG) advises that Trinidad and Tobago remains under an Adverse Weather Alert – Yellow Level, issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) and currently in effect until 9pm today, Tuesday 25th November, 2025.
While weather conditions improved in several areas earlier today, the Ministry notes that runoff from sustained rainfall has led to rising water levels along the Caroni River, with levels expected to approach critical thresholds. Brief, localised overspill remains possible, particularly in flood-prone sections of the lower Caroni Basin. Smaller watercourses and drains may also become overwhelmed during heavier rainfall, especially near high tide at approximately 7:03pm.
The Ministry confirms that localised street and residential flooding occurred in communities within the
Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) and the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation (SGRC). These
incidents were short-term, and waters have since begun to subside. At this time, there has been no significant or widespread impact.
Additional incident reports included:
- A fallen tree along the North Coast Road, Maracas Bay (San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation)
- A fallen utility pole along Siparia Old Road (Siparia Borough Corporation)
In both cases, DMU teams and response agencies were swiftly deployed. The affected roads were cleared andare now fully passable.
Disaster Management Units across all 14 Municipal Corporations remain fully activated and continue to monitor conditions closely, working alongside first responders and partner agencies to support communities and mitigate emerging risks.
Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, the Honourable Khadijah Ameen, expressed gratitude for the continued dedication of response personnel.
As the rainy season continues, the Ministry urges all citizens to remain alert and take necessary precautions:
- Monitor updates and official advisories from the TTMS.
- Secure personal property and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.
- Exercise caution near rivers, watercourses, and known flood or landslide-prone areas.
- Report incidents or requests for assistance to your respective DMU hotline.
