The Tobago House of Assembly is disturbed by the recent murder in Castara involving a United States citizen.
Secretary of Tourism Tashia Burris told TTT News that the relevant support is being offered to the family of the victim, 44-year-old Chris Brown, and discussions are being held with the community’s tourism stakeholders.
The Tourism Secretary said the THA has already mobilised efforts to address the murder.
“My heart goes out to the family of the victim. Nobody wants to hear that something unfortunate happens while they are on vacation, and we are doing everything on our end in terms of providing support from the Division’s end as well as with the TTPS with Victim Support Unit, but the people of Castara are getting together themselves and being very proactive about treating with the situation. They have already reached out to me to have a meeting because they don’t want the news to go out there that Castara is no longer safe.”
Commending Castara’s tourism leaders for their quick response and collaboration following the incident, Secretary Burris said the Division is working closely with the community.
“A couple of them from the Association, they went around to the different accommodations and the different restaurants and all of the people who are staying there just to assure them that this is an isolated incident. While it is unfortunate, we maintain we will have Castara remain as safe as it always has been.”
