The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Ravi Ratiram, has assured rice farmers that there are options available following a reported shortage of urea.
Speaking to reporters at the Distribution Ceremony of the Brazilian Green Dwarf Coconut on Monday, he said he had been in contact with rice farmers, and none of them had expressed panic or raised the issue.
The Minister noted that the rice crop has been harvested and that farmers are now replanting.
“We are in the process of the replanting the rice industry and we do have options available when it comes to fertiliser, different fertilisers, different suppliers etcetera, they are out on the market. It is something that we can work on hand in hand to ensure the success of the industry. So I would basically say that farmers should not be scared by any of the talk they are hearing outside there.”
