Government Proposes New Fireworks Legislation To Balance Interests

The government aims to strike a balance between those who enjoy fireworks and those who oppose them.

This is from the Minister of Land and Legal Affairs, Saddam Hosein, who explained that the new legislation will modernise regulations

“Civil society, animal rights activists, the elderly, the hospitals have been calling for this legislation. There is currently regulation right now, it’s quite archaic. So what we’re doing is we’re modernising. So outside of just those hours, we have to look at the Bill holistically. It deals with fixed penalty notices. So therefore you can charge people more efficiently, and you can have a better grasp of enforcement.”

Minister Hosein also shared some information about the recent trip to the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. He described the trip as quite successful.

“The opportunities are quite vast. Those countries, the Middle Eastern countries, in particular the UAE and Bahrain, they are very interested in Trinidad and Tobago. The economy in terms of Bahrain and so on and their population size is very similar to us, similar history with oil and gas and so on. The UAE in terms of technology. You would have seen Minister Dominic Smith sign agreements with respect to technology going forward and integrating it within all aspects of governance.”
