TPP Vows To Make Autonomy Tobago’s Top Priority In 2026

The Tobago People’s Party (TPP) is promising that autonomy will be a top priority in 2026.

During a meeting on Monday, Political Leader Farley Augustine said once the TPP wins the election on January 12th, they will be pressing ahead with attaining autonomy for Tobago.

“At least by Thursday of that week, according to the law, by Friday morning we swear in Secretaries, and by Monday the 19th of January, we are going to the house to say, whether her house is in South or Port of Spain to say now is the time to go back to the Parliament with Tobago’s Autonomy Bill, and it must reflect what the people of Tobago want.”

Mr. Augustine reminded Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of her commitment on this longstanding matter.

“Yes, the Prime Minister has given her commitment in that regard, but I have heard sweeter birds sing sweeter songs. We have been trying at this for the longest while, and I am saying quite clearly that next year must be the year that we get it done appropriately.”
