Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC says she will not reveal any private negotiation details regarding oil and gas contracts.
Responding to questions in the Lower House on Tuesday, she said the Member of Parliament for Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West should know better.
“These commercial contracts are all tied up with confidentiality agreements. Confidentiality agreements. Mr. Speaker, I am being reminded that would be Law 101, first-year law, that the Minister should well know, having served in that Ministry.”
The Prime Minister said if MP Stuart Young was unaware of these clauses, then it represents the reckless manner in which the former administration conducted negotiations.
She said the current administration will not do the same.
“My government respects our obligations to our downstreamers and upstreamers. We have no intention of breaching contractual obligations, and when these negotiations are completed, public statements will be made.”
