PM Signals Action On Morris-Julian And CLICO Reports

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC says she has taken note of the public discourse around the report into last year’s death of D’Abadie/O’Meara Member of Parliament Lisa Morris-Julian.

Mrs. Morris-Julian died a year ago in a fire at her Farfan Street home in Arima, which also claimed the lives of two of her children.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar said she is now giving the release of the report special attention.

“I know there are calls for the report, so I will advise the Honourable Minister to bring the report to the Cabinet for consideration, with a view to us laying it in Parliament. I think that’s the better way should we so decide, but it will come to Cabinet for consideration.”

The Prime Minister said her Cabinet has also been considering another major report that she thinks has spent too much time in the dark, including the very contentious CLICO report, which will soon be brought to light.

“I’ve asked that the Attorney General bring to the Cabinet, for us to lay in Parliament, the report that has been outstanding for years—that is, the CLICO report. I have also asked for that to come to the Cabinet with a view to us laying it in Parliament when Parliament resumes.”
