The Chaguanas business community remains hopeful despite a slow start to the Christmas season in the borough.
President of the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Baldath Maharaj, spoke with TTT News on behalf of the area’s business community.
President of the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Baldath Maharaj, said while there is a lot of foot and vehicular traffic entering the borough, sales are less than anticipated. Mr Maharaj indicated that sales are even lower than last year and that major retailers in Chaguanas are not even working overtime like they usually do in years gone by to facilitate the customer traffic.
Mr. Maharaj noted that some retail items are benefiting from more consumer attention like groceries and essential items for the festive season. However, he remained hopeful as Christmas draws near, expecting an up-tick or last minute rush.
