The Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union, the recognised majority union for PriceSmart workers in Trinidad, is once again demanding seating accommodation for cashiers and member service clerks.
The OWTU, held a protest in front of PriceSmart’s Movie Towne, Port of Spain branch, on Friday morning, claiming that this longstanding issue was first raised more than a decade ago, and is fixed for hearing on March 18th, 2026.
The Union said the company, is yet to file its evidence and arguments, and witness statements. Second Vice President of the OWTU, Reesa Ramlogan-Jodha, argued that the issue of seating should not be a matter of law, but a matter of choice. She said workers, particularly female staff, are reporting body pains, as a direct result of standing for long periods.
