PM Draws A Line: T&T Rejects Dictatorship And Regional “Fakery”

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC says Trinidad and Tobago wants no part of any regional alignment that supports dictatorship or undermines national security.

Addressing CARICOM’s position on Venezuela on her X account, the Prime Minister shared that Trinidad and Tobago does not support what she described as “a zone of peace fakery,” stressing that the country rejects dictatorship, drug trafficking, and any narrative that threatens regional stability.

She pointed to long-standing threats by Venezuela against Guyana and noted that similar claims have more recently included Trinidad and Tobago, raising serious concerns for national and regional security.

The Prime Minister also responded to criticism from regional officials, saying their focus should be on explaining international travel restrictions affecting their citizens, rather than her comments.

She emphasised that her priority remains the best interests of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, reaffirming that the country’s foreign policy is based on independence, non-alignment and the protection of sovereignty.
