FireOne Fireworks is making every effort to ensure that its customers act within the law as they light up the skies on New Year’s Eve.
With New Year’s Eve quickly approaching, FireOne Fireworks saw a strong turnout at their Macoya Warehouse on Friday as patrons showed up in large numbers and took full advantage of their Boxing Day one-day sale.
While adults browsed, children enjoyed confetti, face painting and refreshments.
According to the company’s Managing Director, Andre Abraham, the sale, which is in its sixteenth year, continues to see a large turnout.
“It’s all about buy one get one free, we opened our doors at nine AM and the response has been tremendous so far.”
The company has fully welcomed the amendments to the Summary Offences Act regarding the use of fireworks.
It has also made every effort to ensure its customers are well informed of the law, and the measures in place to address irresponsible users.
“We published the new summary offences act in store and also on our social media platforms. The summary offences act is in line with our core ideology, it’s what we’ve been promoting, since inception, we believe in respect, courtesy and consideration in the use of fireworks, so this summary offence act is perfectly in line with what we have been promoting for the last thirty years.”
Mr. Abraham also pointed out that over the past few years, customers have already adjusted their behaviour, with fireworks typically being set off at midnight and lasting for about thirty minutes.
Citizens are reminded that discharging fireworks without a valid permit outside the allowed time is now a ticketable offence, carrying a fixed penalty of four hundred and fifty dollars.
Individuals must now obtain a permit to set off fireworks, except during limited times such as public holidays between 8 pm and 9 pm, and on New Year’s Eve from 11.30 pm to 12.30 am.
Fireworks may not be discharged within a half-mile radius of public or private hospitals, airports, zoos, registered animal shelters, farms where animals are reared, Forest Reserves, or National Parks.
