As the 2026 Tobago House of Assembly elections draw closer former PDP leader Watson Duke is calling for unity among Tobagonian parties to maintain local control.
A release from Mr Duke notes that for more than two decades, the People’s National Movement dominated Tobago politics, sweeping election after election.
This changed he notes in 2015 with the rise of the Progressive Democratic Patriots, when in 2017, the PDP broke the PNM’s 12–0 winning streak
Mr duke furhter notes that it is now time for PDP supporters to rally behind the Tobago People’s Party in the upcoming THA elections.
He describes the move as strategic, aimed at continuing the push for Tobago-first leadership.
According to Duke, this election is not about rivalry or ego, but about completing a process that began in 2015 and he argues that supporting the TPP will prevent what he calls a return to “outsider politics” and ensure Tobago’s political destiny remains in Tobagonian hands.
Duke is urging PDP supporters to put aside past differences and focus on what he says is best for the island’s future.
The Tobago House of Assembly elections are set for January 12th, 2026.
