New Category And Semi Final Venue Introduced For Chutney Soca Monarch 2026

Several changes have been announced for this year’s International Chutney Soca Monarch Competition, including a new venue and the introduction of a new category, which will also crown its own champion.

Chief Executive Officer of Southex Limited, George Singh, made the announcement at the official launch of the competition on Wednesday, saying that three monarchs will be crowned this year.

“Five years ago, we introduced the Queen of Chutney Soca. Over the last five years, we have crowned five queens and this title has added value to the competition and has given the female winners bragging rights for the year. In 2026, we are adding another title. In 2026, we will also crown a traditional monarch.”

This year, the competition is celebrating its 31st anniversary.

Mr. Singh says the semi-final round of the competition will be held at a new venue: the Queen’s Park Savannah.

“The semi-final is also being held for the very first time at the Carnival Food Village at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain, and I’m really, really happy to bring the semi-final to Port of Spain. As a matter of fact, the National Carnival Commission, who is our main sponsor, really wanted us to come to Port of Spain, and I’m happy that we’re making it happen in 2026.”

Meanwhile, 2025 Monarch Machel Montano has signalled his intention to defend his crown.

“It was an honour for me to represent as the Chutney Soca Monarch for 2025, and I just want to say that I’m excited to defend that crown on Sunday the 8th of February at the Skinner Park in San Fernando for the Chutney Soca Monarch finals. I will be there, and I wish everyone good luck.”

The Grand Finals of the International Chutney Soca Monarch Competition will take place on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at Skinner Park in San Fernando.

In-person screenings for competitors will take place this Saturday.
