Police Seize Over $7M in Cannabis, Arrest Two in Nationwide Operations

The TTPS conducted successful anti-crime operations across Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in the seizure and destruction of over $7 million worth of cannabis, two arrests, and the recovery of a loaded firearm.

Couva Police Station officers discovered one loaded revolver near a chain link fence on Martha Street during an intelligence-led operation around noon on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

In the Northern Division, Task Force officers discovered 1.8 kilogrammes of cannabis in a black plastic bag at an abandoned structure on Boy’s Lane, D’Abadie. The exercise was coordinated by W/Snr. Supt. Maynard-Wilson, Supt. Mc Kenzie, and ASP Ablacksingh.

In the South Western Division, Special Response Unit officers intercepted a motor vehicle with two male occupants in Cap-de-Ville between 5 pm and 8 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. The search yielded 26.5 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of one million dollars. Both suspects were arrested. ACP Hazel spearheaded the operation.

The largest operation occurred in the Eastern Division on Thursday, involving the Gang and Intelligence Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Task Force, Air Support Unit, Drone Team, and Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Special Forces.
Officers trekked several kilometres into densely forested terrain in Biche, discovering two sophisticated cannabis grow-houses containing 6,000 fully grown cannabis trees. The facilities were equipped with advanced irrigation systems, solar panels, and large quantities of fertiliser.

The cannabis trees, valued at six million dollars, were destroyed along with the cultivation infrastructure. The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Edwards, Snr. Supt. Paponette, Supt. Etienne, ASP Morales, and Insp. Nixon.
