Transport Ministry Dismisses Claims Of $10,000 Fine For Drivers Under 25: No Defensive Driving Course Required

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is advising the public to rely on legitimate sources for accurate information.

It says that claims circulating about a $10,000 fine being imposed on people under the age of 25 for failing to complete a defensive driving course as a condition for motor vehicle insurance are false.

A release from the Ministry notes that, at this time, there is no provision under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago that requires persons under the age of 25 years to complete a defensive driving course, nor is it a mandatory condition for obtaining or maintaining motor vehicle insurance.

The public is urged to remain vigilant against misinformation in the public domain.
