Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries of the Tobago House of Assembly will be sworn-in on Monday, January 26th, 2026.
THA Chief Secretary Augustine shared this information during the first Plenary Sitting of the 2026-2030 THA Session on Thursday.
“Her Excellency the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Christine Carla Kangaloo will be on island on Monday morning at 11am to administer the oath of office to Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries of the Tobago House of Assembly.”
For a second term, Assembly Member Zorisha Hackett was appointed Leader of Assembly Business of the THA, with newly appointed Councillor Adanna Joseph-Wallace appointed Deputy Leader.
Mr. Augustine also thanked Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for her leadership in amending the Tobago House of Assembly Act.
“Through that amendment, the quorum of this House has been increased in keeping with our expanded membership. Through that amendment, the artificial cap on the number of Secretaries has been removed, allowing for more effective governance and proper distribution of responsibilities. Through that amendment, we have corrected an outdated practice by ensuring that women in this House, and little girls across this island are no longer referred to as ‘Assemblymen’ but are now properly recognised under the gender-neutral and respectful term ‘Assembly Member.'”
