The President has officially published the Reign of the Merry Monarch.
A gazetted Order on Thursday state the President has declared that Carnival 2026, shall commence at 4am on Monday February 16th, 2026 and shall cease at midnight on Tuesday February 17th, 2026.
The Order is made under Section 5 of the Public Holidays and Festivals Act.
Also published are regulations prohibiting the possession and use of glass bottles during the upcoming Carnival period. The Carnival (Prohibition of Glass Bottles) Regulations, 2026, were made for the same period as the declared Carnival.
The restriction applies across multiple locations nationwide, including Port of Spain, San Fernando, Chaguanas, Scarborough, and Crown Point, among others.
Anyone found in breach of the regulations may be fined $1,000 and face up to six months’ imprisonment.
Police officers are also empowered to seize glass bottles without making an arrest, with seized items to be forfeited and disposed of as directed by the Minister.
