Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is celebrating sixteen years as political leader of the United National Congress. In paying tribute, Member of Parliament for Couva South Barry Padarath thanked Mrs. Persad-Bissessar for her decisive leadership and commitment to building a stronger party and a better Trinidad and Tobago.
Mr. Padarath said the Office of Political Leader is no easy task, as it requires political acumen, emotional intelligence, organizational discipline, resilience under pressure, and an unwavering moral compass. Member of Parliament for Mayaro, Nicholas Morris, a former Youth Arm Chairman of the UNC, said that in the last sixteen years Mrs. Persad-Bissessar has developed the UNC into a brand of unity and progress beyond the party’s traditional base, and this resulted in two of the largest electoral victories in Trinidad and Tobago’s history, due to her vision to improve the lives of all citizens.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for St. Augustine, Khadijah Ameen, said Mrs. Persad-Bissessar’s administration showed that leadership must uplift people, strengthen institutions, and improve everyday lives.
