Minister Of Health Reviews Cath Lab Operations To Support Efficient Cardiac Care

The Minister of Health, Dr. Lackram Bodoe, accompanied by Minister in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rishad Seecheran, today visited the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) to assess the requirements necessary to increase capacity for the efficient and effective delivery of cardiac care to patients.

The visit formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing oversight of critical clinical services and focused on identifying operational needs, workflow efficiencies and resource requirements to optimise utilisation of the Cath Lab in the management and treatment of cardiac patients.

During the visit, the Ministers met with hospital management and technical personnel and received briefings on current operations and opportunities for improvement within the unit.

The Minister of Health also met with Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, Chairman of the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA), and was accompanied by the executive of the Ministry of Health, which included Mr. Asif Ali, Permanent Secretary, Mr. Stephen Boodhram, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Dr. Jeanine St. Bernard Chief Medical Officer, Acting.

The Ministry of Health remains committed to constructive engagement with all stakeholders while ensuring continuity of care, patient safety, and the strengthening of specialised services across the public health system.
