The Ministry of Education will be meeting with the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) and school maxi taxi operators in the coming week to iron out payment issues.
This from Minister of Education Dr. Michael Dowlath, speaking in the Lower House of Parliament on Friday.
He was responding to questions about a potential strike by operators for non-payment of funds.
Minister Dowlath told the Lower House that payments are being made to the tune of over $900,000, with more to be disbursed.
“PTSC is currently owed $10,796,194, of that amount over the past week in three tranches of $1.3 million, $1.4 million, and $1.4 million, a total of $4.1 million has been disbursed to PTSC.”
Minister Dowlath expressed his thanks to the maxi taxi operators for their patience and dedication to the nation’s children and schools.
He said the Ministry will be working towards ensuring that there is no misunderstanding between the two parties moving forward.
“In collaboration with PTSC, a meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 4th, to ensure that in the future there will be a smooth system of payment to those maxi taxi operators.”
