The Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) and the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) have strengthened ties. On Friday, the RHAs representatives signed a Memorandum of Understanding during a ceremony in Tobago.
Deputy Chief Secretary with responsibility for Health & Wellness Dr. Faith Brebnor said the collaboration between the TRHA and the NWRHA will allow for sharing of information, technical expertise and resources.
“It allows us to learn the good from each other. It allows us to recognise the mistakes that others have made without making them ourselves. It allows to really share resources because if we have something that is one RHA and can be used by the other RHA at a reduced cost then the resources that we have are going to go further and wider and benefit our clients.”
NWRHA Chairman Professor Hubert Daisley said the two RHA’s have been quietly working closely for years. He pointed to surgical support the TRHA’s surgeons have offered over the past years and further outlined that the MOU will enhance their existing relationship.
“The waiting list is extremely long and I have been able to call on the surgeons here who cooperate and would have executed their duties and performed the surgery in record time….We have assisted and already put things in place with laboratory services that cannot be accomplished in Tobago, they are now being done at the Port of Spain General Hospital.”
The officials stressed that the collaborative approach among RHAs should be maintained to ensure health care delivery in Trinidad and Tobago is improved.
