Thrilled and proud, 11 year old Janaya Clarke is celebrating her victory as the 2026 National Junior Calypso Monarch.
In an exclusive interview with TTT News, Janaya shared more about her winning composition ‘Role Models’—a song that addresses the issue of role models in society.
“Mr. Brian London wrote the song, and the song is mainly about the lack of role models we have in this country, as in leaders, politicians, parents, police officers, and youths.”
When asked what she enjoys most about singing, she said, “I like that I get to scream and sing, and I like that it’s fun to perform, and backstage is really a vibe.”
When it comes to preparing for the stage, this is what she had to say: “Get a lot of sleep, burn your lungs with ginger tea that my mummy does prepare for me, and then right before stage, do breathing exercises and vocal exercises, and just not talk to anyone and think about your song.”
Janaya says while she dreams of becoming a singer, a dancer, and an artist, singing is her number one choice.
