Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC has extended heartfelt congratulations to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley on her historic third consecutive victory in the February 11th, 2026, General Elections in Barbados, describing the landslide result as a clear reflection of her strong leadership and the enduring confidence of the Barbadian people.
In a statement, the Prime Minister also extended congratulations to the Barbados Labour Party on its decisive 30–0 electoral success, as well as to the people of Barbados on a peaceful and decisive democratic exercise.
“This renewed mandate reflects the deep confidence of the Barbadian people in Prime Minister Mottley’s leadership and in the vision, record, and achievements of the BLP. Her resounding victory stands as a powerful affirmation of trust earned and leadership proven. To secure a third consecutive landslide mandate is an exceptional accomplishment and a testament to her steadfast commitment to national development, resilience, and progress in a rapidly changing global environment.”
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar spoke of her long personal and professional friendship with Prime Minister Mottley from their early days as Caribbean attorneys, which she said was strengthened through collaboration on regional legal matters, including in St Kitts and Nevis in support of a constitutional challenge brought by the then Opposition People’s Action Movement in 2009.
“That experience reflected our shared respect for constitutional governance and the rule of law across the Caribbean. Over the years, our bond has deepened as contemporaries in political leadership, serving as Prime Ministers of our respective nations, united by common democratic values and a shared responsibility to advance the interests of our peoples and strengthen Caribbean unity.”
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar noted that Barbados holds a special place for her, as she pursued her legal studies at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in the early 1980s. While there, she said she was profoundly touched by the strength, intelligence, discipline, and diligence of the Barbadian people.
She also said she was deeply appreciative of Prime Minister Mottley’s presence at her swearing-in ceremony in Parliament following the UNC’s resounding victory in the April 28th, 2025, General Elections.
“That gesture reflected not only personal goodwill but also the enduring and unbreakable ties between Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados as sister nations within CARICOM. Indeed, the relationship between our two countries remains rooted in shared history, culture, commerce, and regional solidarity. Together, we continue to advance food and energy security, climate resilience, economic integration, and a stronger, more influential Caribbean voice on the global stage.”
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar wished Prime Minister Mottley and her Government ongoing guidance, wisdom, and strength as they serve their nation, fostering continued progress and stability for Barbados.
“May the Government and people of Barbados, and the Barbadian nation itself, be endowed with enduring peace, sustained prosperity, and abundant success. And may God always bless Prime Minister Mottley and the people of Barbados with security, progress, and happiness.”
