Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Nicholas Morris, has welcomed the issuance of OFAC General Licences permitting cross-border oil and gas operations with Venezuela.
In a statement, he credited Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s strategic diplomacy which he said has delivered tangible socio-economic benefits to Trinidad and Tobago.
He also reminded the public of her visit to Washington in September 2025, where she met with the US Secretary of State to ensure that T&T would once more regain the OFAC licences.
“From the very start the Prime Minister has been determined to reverse this nation’s economic and energy sector decline through strategic diplomacy. While the Prime Minister must be congratulated for her significant role in this development, this is just one example of her acts to return growth to T&T as she must also be commended for the TT $94.1 million grant funding received from China last year, the significant gains made from Prime Minister Modi’s visit as well as the major investment potential generated by the recent visits by a high-level UAE delegation.”
Minister Morris said it is clear that in just nine months, “the Prime Minister and her government are implementing a clearly defined plan to reverse the last 10 years of destruction under the last PNM administration.”
