Penal Police Chase Ends In Shooting, Stolen Car Recovered

Police in the Penal District are investigating a police-involved shooting and the recovery of a stolen vehicle, while separate enquiries continue into a robbery with aggravation in Maraval.

Around 8:45 pm on February 13th, officers conducting an anti-crime exercise along Oliverie Drive spotted a silver Nissan Tiida being driven without headlights or registration plates. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it sped off, leading to a chase along Oliverie Drive, Ali Avenue, and Batchyia Trace.

During the pursuit, an officer reported seeing a rear passenger pointing what appeared to be a firearm at the marked police vehicle. Fearing for his safety and that of a colleague, the officer discharged six rounds from his service weapon.

The vehicle later crashed into a structure at the South Haven Mall compound. Two men fled on foot. A 23-year-old Penal man was arrested, while a second suspect remains at large. Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen in a robbery in Erin the day before.

In a separate incident, a 37-year-old Maraval man was robbed at his home by three armed men, who stole a cellphone, cash, and personal items. The stolen car was later found in St. James.
