PM Persad-Bissessar Marks Maha Shivratri With Message Of Peace And Compassion

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended greetings to the Hindu community on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, wishing devotees a safe, prayerful and spiritually fulfilling observance.

In a message marking the day dedicated to Lord Shiva, she noted that Maha Shivratri is one of the most revered observances in the Hindu calendar.

Devotees fast, pray, meditate, and keep vigil from dusk to dawn, offering sacred items and chanting mantras in temples and homes across the country.

The Prime Minister said the occasion symbolises renewal and personal transformation and encouraged citizens to let go of anger, resentment and fear, and to embrace discipline, compassion and truth.

She added that the festival’s message extends beyond individual reflection to national life, at a time when the country faces crime and social challenges.

Highlighting the nation’s diversity, she said the peaceful observance of Maha Shivratri reflects mutual respect among faiths and cultures.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that security measures have been put in place nationwide to ensure devotees can worship safely and without fear.
