Minister of Culture and Community Development, Michelle Benjamin, has confirmed that Flava Village will return next year, but only after undergoing significant structural repairs.
She said the space will close as originally planned on February 28th, not because demand has tapered off, but because the physical infrastructure simply cannot safely support continued use without extensive rebuilding.
“It is going to be back next year, but it will be closing off on the 28th. As you would appreciate, it being a new initiative, there are things that we have to treat with. In order for it to be permanent, I do not want to have, if you look at the floor, if you visit Flava, the floor is temporary. It’s moving. The crowd that we didn’t anticipate would have been so overwhelming at some nights. Flava, I think that floor itself had taken a beating. That has to be redone. So there’s no way that we could keep it up right now.”
She revealed that the Ministry plans to end the 2026 season with a special cultural send-off.
“It will be closing off on the 28th. We are planning on closing it with a religious aspect, where we will have all the local calypsonians that sing gospel tunes come into the space, and we send it off in a nice praise to bring it back next year.”
