Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC is set to attend the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), from February 24th to 27th, 2026.
The meeting will be held in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, under the theme “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM.”
It will be chaired by the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, who assumed the chairmanship on January 1st.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar will lead a national delegation that includes Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Sean Sobers; Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Nicholas Morris; Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, Farley Augustine; and senior government officials.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver an address at the Opening Ceremony on February 24th at the Marriott Dome in Frigate Bay.
Heads of Government will engage in discussions on regional priorities, with participation from international partners including the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Afreximbank.
On the margins of the meeting, Trinidad and Tobago will pursue bilateral talks aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, trade, security and development.
The Prime Minister announced that Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Jearlean John, will serve as Acting Prime Minister during her absence. She expressed confidence in Minister John and wished her every success as she assumes this responsibility until the Prime Minister’s return.
