Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Infrastructure Jearlean John made a follow-up visit to the Port of Port of Spain on Monday night, arriving just before the final sailing of the Blue Wave Harmony to Tobago.
In a video from the Ministry’s website, Minister John is seen with top executives from NIDCO and the Port Authority making a check of the vessel before it sailed to the Port of Scarborough with cargo.
On board the carrier were 185 trucks and five 20ft containers, as well as sand, gravel, and blocks.
During the walk-through, Minister John reaffirmed her commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure a reliable and efficient seabridge service for all travellers.
She said she wanted to ensure that an adequate service was being provided.
“I came to see what is happening. I try to be a dedicated public servant, but I also stand here as a Tobagonian. I don’t want things to run out in Charlotteville or in Delaford, in Speyside. So the message I want to tell them is basically that at this point in time, I have some authority, and it’s not something I take lightly. So that is why I’m standing here because, you know, if I didn’t have it, I couldn’t be here, but I can come and see for myself whether we are providing an adequate service.”
In a follow-up to the Minister’s visit, the fully loaded MV Blue Wave Harmony docked at the Port of Scarborough, Tobago, at approximately 7:10am on schedule.
Port officials confirmed that the vessel arrived with a full complement of goods destined for businesses and consumers on the island. Offloading operations began shortly after docking, with truckers assembling at the port facility and boarding in an orderly sequence to facilitate the smooth discharge and distribution of cargo.
Authorities say the coordinated effort is aimed at ensuring timely delivery of supplies and minimising any disruption to commercial activity.
