THA Pledges Continued Support For Young Women’s Development

Tobago House of Assembly Secretary for Youth Empowerment and Sport, Keigon Denoon, has added his voice to the call for the empowerment of women and girls.

Speaking at the International Women’s Day symposium hosted by Girls of Impact in Tobago on Friday, Secretary Denoon urged the island’s young women to reflect on the meaning of the theme for International Women’s Day 2026, “Give to Gain.”

“Today we join the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day — a day that does not merely recognise women’s achievements but calls on the world to elevate, empower and invest in women and girls. Today is a day I want you to purpose in your heart that you will give to gain, because in giving you receive so much more.”

Mr. Denoon also pledged the THA’s continued commitment to investing in the island’s young women.

“My Division will continue to work relentlessly to create those pathways. This morning I sat with the Deputy High Commissioner of Australia, in conversation, seeing how best we can formalise our partnership so that you, the young people of Tobago, can benefit. In our conversation we spoke about opportunities such as fellowships that are available in Australia, about scholarships, and these are things you can look forward to in the near future.”

However, Mr. Denoon called on them to capitalise on the support they receive in order to uplift others.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let this not be just another programme you attend. Let it be a declaration — a declaration that you will give excellence and gain success, that you will give courage and gain confidence, that you will give leadership and gain a legacy.”

The THA Secretary noted that there are many examples of women in leadership across the island who can serve as mentors as young women continue to pursue their own paths toward self-actualisation.
